09.04.10

Right so here it is... I have learnt something very important about myself today. Whilst reading Sarah's ironman report, thinking about just how much she put her body through. Thinking about the amount of training she had done over the past year to get ready physically and mentally. I am the world's best excuse maker.. Reasons not to get up in the morning to train, its too cold, dark, raining, I'm tired, got the sniffles.. I have used every excuse there is.. and then some. I need to get tough and stop making excuses and in the words of my beautiful friend Sarah 'Just do it... and then its done!' This is going to be my new mantra.

So last night when I got home from work, Aaron needed to get some paperwork signed at the chemist, so we all put on our shoes and went for a walk together.. Courts was in a funny mood so her and I raced each other most of the way.. Now I can say that it hurt like hell but she slowed down before I did. Big achievement for an overweight mummy.

I set the alarm for this morning to go off at 5.30am (I can train much better in the mornings). Now I did have a rather interrupted night with Gem, her back very itchy and sore, and I was feeling very weary and did want to roll over and go back to sleep. You will be pleased to know that the nagging woman in my head is back and she guilted me out of the snugly warm bed. First 3 sets of crunches, 5kms flat out on the bike (could barely breathe at this point), then outside and up and down the street with a mixture of walking and jogging. We have a a little steep hill in the middle of our street so I ran from our corner to the top of the road and walked back down for 30minutes. It was still quite dark at this stage so decided to stay in our well lit street.

And while we are fessing up... I haven't weighed in for a good long while... have been too scared as I have been a little relaxed with the diet. But it is time to get this last 20kg off, so off to the weigh in this afternoon.. good bad or ugly I will get on the scales and let you know how I go next week. I don't think I have put anything on so if that is the case I will be very happy.

We are all heading to El Cabelo (20mins from Northam) for the beautiful baby Carys' 1st birthday.. a milestone we were not expecting to celebrate. She is not out of the woods yet and still has many obstacles to overcome but she is getting stronger and is the most beautiful baby girl.. I am going to eat cake with her... Love to all.. will fill you in on all the weekend news next week..

Daily quote: Just do it... and then its done!

  1. Dear Rachelly, ah yes, the excuse thing. See mine is I work 12 or 13 hours every day and then I am totally "stuffed". Well that's not going to change so like you, I am taking Sarahs mantra and making it my own too. That women ahs a lot to answer for. Still, with Anja's help I am traing 3 x days having 1 x day off. I do a min of 40 mins and often 60 mins. Aprils is my "just do it" month. Get the habit going, get "doing the time" going, do the treadmill, the bike the rower and now this morning "the CROSS TRAINER" monster of all monters, I last a whole 2 mins. before I cracked. A few challenges there I think. Best of all is the phone calls from you and the girls, the e-mails from Caty and Anja, and Erin checking in to all cheer me along.
My goal is to simply finish the race. Now if I can do that in anything under 1.5 hours, I will be a happy chappy.
I love you guy's. You are wonderful. I am amazed by your energy, "stick-toedness" in the face of a busy, frantic, life. Rach, you are amazing, simply amazing.
    love,

    Mum

  2. Well done gorgeous girls. Very proud of you both. You'll be happy and frustrated also to know that i've been enjoying sleepin's and cruisy river loops on my bike. Back to the pool and running track next week as i have a race next weekend eek (just a little corporate race nothing big) then an olympic distance in a few weeks time.
LOVE that you've picked up the mantra - i had spent many hours making excuses and justifying my inability to get to training and in the end, just found that it was quicker and easier to just do the training... because one you do it... the it's done!!

Hope Gemmy is all healed up now and Very excited that the whole crew is on board for November you may have to squish in another visitor!

Happy training - love to everyone.
