30.04.10

Thursday: A very quiet day at work.. I decided to give myself an early mark as next week is going to be very very busy.. The weather was still nice and I had a couple of hours before needing to pick up the girls.. so I get my training gear on and head to the beach.. An hour of walking at a fast pace in the soft sand..Alot harder than it sounds.. However the cold water on the shins did help with the shin splints.. I also have to admit that the beach was deserted... then weather lovely and the water a very very inviting aquamarine colour.... yes... yes I did... I stripped off the the undies and bra and went swimming.. Lovely way to spend an afternoon.. xx

Friday: My day off work.. Kids packed off to school... I went and had lunch with the lovely Maz and came home to pack for the girls to spend the weekend with their Dad. The girls picked up I headed to the pool for swim squad.. so I do two laps as a warm up and the amazing Julie times me doing 200mtr swim... Now at this point you need to remember my previously mentioned goal of 4mins for 200mtrs... today I did 200mtrs in ... drum roll please 5m10sec.. woot woot..and a little skip... 6.5 months to lose 1min 10sec... now I can do that.

So this afternoon training during netball get a little difficult as I was asked to help out... So I was proud of me... I went for a quick run for 20 minutes before training and then did a loop of the courts with the girls when they were doing warmups... So I didn't stop and make an excuse but found a way to train...

26.04.10

Friday: So after school all us three girls hit the pool for swim squad.. Off the girls go .. In I get.. The swim squad coach is going to be training me too.. Having spoken to Sarah Ironwoman extrordinaire.. looking to improve technique and worry about speed later.. So the coach gives me some drills to do.. expects me to remember the drill, remember to kick my legs and try to breathe all at the same time... would have been easier to do if she wasn't laughing so hard at me near drowning..

Saturday: Both girls are doing an umpiring course with netball.. so I have to have them at the courts at 8am-10am and then back to the courts from 11.40am-3.30pm.. So this week with the weather so lovely after dropping the girls at netball 8am I came home and grabbed my bike and rode into town for my weigh in.. approx 7.5km into town.. Very disappointing week on the scales with no weight lost but I have gained alot it fitness.. Iam scaring myself with just how much I can do. Back home in 19mins (love the new road tyres I have on my bike) jumped into the car and down to pick up the girls.

Sunday: Day of Rest .. Hey before you start with how slack is that.. I was at dawn service with Harrison and Gemma.. Needed the rest day.

Monday: Sun shining.. not hot and not cold.. Perfect weather.. I convince Aaron that all of us should jump on the bikes and get outside.. so we do a lap of our little suburb and then head into town for an icecream and back again .. In total around 20kms.. so here is where my day gets interesting.. I am bringing in the washing and I am feeling just not settled.. Aaron is starting to get dinner organised and I say... I really feel like I need to go for a little run.. Me.. yep you heard/read correctly.. I needed to go for a little run after a 2hour/20km bike run.. Aaron suggested I do a loop of the lake.. Just what I needed.. I went for a little jog around the lake and back home to finish the washing and enjoy a lovely dinner I didn't need to cook... It doesn't get any better than that..

22.04.10 part b

Gem and I went for a ride on the bike this afternoon... She was feeling very pooped after the first 14kms and went home and I continued and completed a second loop... Yes that's right.. me just did 24kms.. Time 1.35.. now I need to say that the first 50mins was me stopping every so often to wait for Gem.. she just wasn't energetic today.. I had a very strong headwind what seemed like the whole way round.. Also I feel it necessary to mention the massive (well they seemed massive whilst cycling up them) hills we have in the local area.

So when I got home I was feeling very proud of myself ... having thought about it... I have much work to do.. Seven months to be able to knock 6 mins off my last triathlon time... I think I may have lost a noodle or two...

22.04.10

Aaron is on his way home... The world is once again rose coloured.

We are headed out for a bike ride this afternoon.. Why I hear you ask... Shin Splints... oh the Shin Splints... I have very sore shins.. so thought today would go for a good ride and tomorrow the girls have swim squad.. so I can join in... I am aiming for a time of 48.45 for the Tri..which means we are going to have to do some serious swim training.. because looking at last years results I am going to have to have a time of around 4.30 for the swim leg.. What on earth have I done.

Not really sure what other training I will be able to do over the next few days.. as I am dealing with some outside stresses that are taking up some extra time.. And if I could actually get this whole lack of sleep thing sorted... not sure why my body is not sleeping.. Perhaps a glass of some sort of alcohol tonight with Aaron might do the trick..

21.04.10

Sunday: I awake on Sunday morning to two very tired little girls.. I decided to let them have a rest as they were doing netball training in the afternoon. I was excited by the thought of riding my bike into town to return the DVD's.. so off I went, leaving the girls to watch cartoons and eat me out of house and home.. I was quite surprised that it only took me an hour and a half.. not a bad ride.. I discovered it is a ride I can do with the kids as it is mostly on footpaths/cycleways. It will also give me an opportunity to teach them about road safety.

I get home and collapse into the hammock for a little snooze.. Can't wait for Monday and our designated rest day..Think I may little strain in my thigh muscle so the rest day will be good.

Monday: I am resting.. If you can call washing, vacuuming, cooking and working from home resting. No nanny nap today.

Tuesday: The girls and I decided that we will go for a good ride after school and work as we all have sore legs. So both girls and complaining after school... I'm tired.. do we have to go.. So here is where I am proud of myself.. It could have been easy to say sure no worries, we can not do any exercise today.. but I went and changed into my new magic pants.. (Thanks Ma..** I love my new exercise clothes) I came into the lounge and said.. I am going for a ride... If you are coming with me you will need to get changed now.. So bless her, Gem jumped too and got changed. Courts decided that she would stay at home and do her homework. Although me thinks she watched telly until she heard me open the garage.. Gem and I rode to Coles at the Park Centre to get some eggs and got the time down to 1 hour.. I am still not sure how far, will have to get Courts out for a ride to measure with her bike. But we rode quite hard to do it in the hour, so arrived home feeling very happy.

Today the girls have netball training after school and I had planned to go running around the oval during their training.. However Aaron called lasts night to say his shift has changed and he is now coming home on Thursday.. So emergency trip to the beautician tonight because he can NOT see me in this condition.. So I scooted out for a quick run/walk/jog at 5.30am this morning.. Very dark, cold and creepy so I kept it down to a 4km block..

17.04.10 Part B

So we went for a bike ride.. 14kms.. taking us just on an hour.. Came home had a lovely lunch and a small snooze in the hammock..

Around 3pm Gem says to me "can we go for a run now Mum..?' So off we go for the 6km loop.. all 3 of us with concrete stumps for legs..Now we could only jog about half way today before our minds gave into the pain in our legs and then we continued the rest of the way in a walk..

Tomorrow we are riding our bikes to take back some DVD.. not sure how far that is but we will measure and let you know tomorrow..

Rest day on Monday... because on Tuesday night we are going to the runners club to start training sessions for a fun run in August... The lady next is organising it, so no getting out of it.. What have I done..?

17.04.10

Ok so I have been very slack updating Confessions but I have a very good excuse... I have been busy training. So last Saturday we headed to Carys' birthday... checkout my facebook page for the photo's.. we ate cake and many, many other party foods.. Had a fabulous day.

Sunday was spent sleeping in.. tummy feeling terrible from the party food and doing the housework, with sneakers on and getting my back into it and definately working up a sweat..

I spent the first part of the week working from home and having kids running around and Nev bashing the tiles from the bathroom (in the middle of bathroom renos)..

Mum arrived Thursday night for a quick visit and all four of us went for the 6km loop.. We did a mixture of walking/slow jogging.. the Nanny doing very well. The girls coping very well and I surprised myself.. Last night we went off again.. So after a short warmup walk Courtney says can we see how far we can run.. So off we go.. Nanny lasted a good while when the sore shins kick in... Gem the little trooper went slow but steady and did very well.. Courtney liked to stay in front and kept checking that no one was catching her.. Me I just kept going because I didn't want the girls to think that I couldn't keep up with them. So we have estimated that we ran approx 4km.. Feeling very proud of our selves.. and came home and had roasted salmon and salad for dinner..

By the way... I weighed in last week after not getting on the scales since Feb and had lost 100gms.. very happy.. weighed in again yesterday and have lost another kilo... woop.. woop xx

Can't stop and talk now Nanny has gone home and the girls and I are off for a very big big ride.. Not sure where we are headed but want to make it a good one.. Talk to you on the other side..

09.04.10

Right so here it is... I have learnt something very important about myself today. Whilst reading Sarah's ironman report, thinking about just how much she put her body through. Thinking about the amount of training she had done over the past year to get ready physically and mentally. I am the world's best excuse maker.. Reasons not to get up in the morning to train, its too cold, dark, raining, I'm tired, got the sniffles.. I have used every excuse there is.. and then some. I need to get tough and stop making excuses and in the words of my beautiful friend Sarah 'Just do it... and then its done!' This is going to be my new mantra.

So last night when I got home from work, Aaron needed to get some paperwork signed at the chemist, so we all put on our shoes and went for a walk together.. Courts was in a funny mood so her and I raced each other most of the way.. Now I can say that it hurt like hell but she slowed down before I did. Big achievement for an overweight mummy.

I set the alarm for this morning to go off at 5.30am (I can train much better in the mornings). Now I did have a rather interrupted night with Gem, her back very itchy and sore, and I was feeling very weary and did want to roll over and go back to sleep. You will be pleased to know that the nagging woman in my head is back and she guilted me out of the snugly warm bed. First 3 sets of crunches, 5kms flat out on the bike (could barely breathe at this point), then outside and up and down the street with a mixture of walking and jogging. We have a a little steep hill in the middle of our street so I ran from our corner to the top of the road and walked back down for 30minutes. It was still quite dark at this stage so decided to stay in our well lit street.

And while we are fessing up... I haven't weighed in for a good long while... have been too scared as I have been a little relaxed with the diet. But it is time to get this last 20kg off, so off to the weigh in this afternoon.. good bad or ugly I will get on the scales and let you know how I go next week. I don't think I have put anything on so if that is the case I will be very happy.

We are all heading to El Cabelo (20mins from Northam) for the beautiful baby Carys' 1st birthday.. a milestone we were not expecting to celebrate. She is not out of the woods yet and still has many obstacles to overcome but she is getting stronger and is the most beautiful baby girl.. I am going to eat cake with her... Love to all.. will fill you in on all the weekend news next week..

06.04.10

Well Thank Heavens Easter is finally over.. There is no more chocolate or hot cross buns or Aarons Mums Coconut Bread in the house.. The 5 of us spent the weekend on 350 acres.. surrounded by trees, cows, sheep and loads of birds.. While quite a few naughty items were consumed... I have walked the entire farm.. While everyone else went from one place to the other either in the ute or on a motorbike.. I took the high ride and walked and ran.. We rode motorbikes through dirtbike heaven, chased cows, feed sheep and shot the easter bunny.. (Best explain this one) Aaron was teaching the kids to shoot, starting with cans.. that night they all wanted to go shooting for rabbits.. Me I was a little worried the girls, particularly my greenie Gemma, would find it confronting. However she was literally in Aaron's arm pit, wanting to be the spotter with the spotlight, asking loads of questions. Once the Easter Bunny was shot rather skillfully by Aaron, Gemma ran over picked it up and was rather fascinated.. then spent the rest of the weekend pestering Aaron to take her shooting cans again so she could be a really good shot like him... A small amount of hero worshipping happening me thinks.

I have also experienced a shot of adrenaline.. Gemma (It all happened to her this weekend) has learnt that a barbed wire fence is unforgiving. She took a corner too fast on the bike and clipped the fence, bike then flipped her around and threw her onto the fence..She has a large scratch accros her back with a couple of punctures from the barbs... also some superficial scratches on her arms.. I had to clean her up while Aaron untangled the bike from the fence and stop the petrol leaking.. then a trip to the hospital mostly because I thought she would need a tetnese shot.. 20min drive with Gem crying in my lap, Courts and Harrison crying in sympathy.. Me crying because all three of the kids crying and Aaron staying very calm and collected for all of us. To end a very long story.. No shot required, no stitches needed.. Wounds dressed and Panadol kicking in with Gemma itching to get back onto the bike. Parents requiring an alcoholic drink and decision made to have alot more safety gear before the next trip.. Gem is recovering well, a little stiff and sore now but doing well.

So for now we are back to normal with watching the food intake and exercise happening from tomorrow morning. Will update you again soon.
